You’ve finally taken the plunge and decided to get a lash lift. You’ve invested good money and would like to keep your lifted lashes for as long as possible.
Your lash tech might have given you aftercare instructions and that got you wondering, can you go swimming with a lash lift?
The simple answer is yes. You can go swimming with a lash lift after 24 hours. This is the time the lifting process requires to be fully set. Getting your lashes wet before 24 hours will cause the lift to not set properly and your lashes will return to their natural shape.
In this article, I wanted to dispel any myths about lash lifts and swimming. Here’s everything you need to know about keeping your lashes looking fabulous while you take a dip.
Let’s dive in!
Myth #1: You Can’t Go Swimming With a Lash Lift
This is the most common misconception about lash lifts. People think that because the lift uses a chemical solution, getting them wet will somehow cause the chemicals to react and “unlift” the eyelashes.
This is not true! Once the natural lashes are lifted and set, they will stay in that shape until the lash shed cycle is complete (every 6-8 weeks).
Myth #2: You Can’t Use Water or Steam on Your Face
Another myth is that you can’t use water or steam on your face after getting a lash lift. This is also not true! You can use water and steam on your face as usual, just avoid getting the lashes wet for the first 24 hours.
After 24 hours, you can go about your normal skincare routine and use water and steam on your face as usual. Just be careful not to rub or pull on the lashes, as this can cause them to shed prematurely.
Myth #:3 Chlorine Will Ruin Your Lash Lift
If you’re planning on spending a lot of time in the pool, you might be worried that chlorine will ruin your lash lift.
While chlorine won’t ruin your lash lift, it can cause the lashes to become dry and brittle. To help protect your lashes, it’s always best to apply the nourishing oil or cream provided by your lash tech, before swimming.
This will help to create a barrier between the chlorine and your lashes, and will also help to keep the lashes hydrated.
At Divine Lashes, we systematically give a free bottle of nourishing oil in our aftercare kit.
Myth #4: Salt Water Will Ruin Your Lash Lift
Another common question is whether salt water will ruin your lash lift. Salt water will not ruin your lash lift, but just like chlorine, it can dry up the lash hair over time.
And here I’m talking over a lot of time and exposure. If you go for an occasional swim in the ocean, you don’t have to worry about saltwater ruining your lash lift.
But if you live near the beach and spend a lot of time in the water, you should also apply the nourishing oil daily.
Moreover, lash lifts are perfectly compatible with swimming goggles so that you can protect your eyes and lashes at the same time!
Myth #5: Water Will Undo Your Lash Tint
This is another myth that I’m hearing more and more. People think that water will somehow “undo” the tint, causing the lashes to return to their original color.
Rest assured. Water will not undo your lash tint. The only thing that can remove the tint is the lash tint remover.
Why is that?
Simply because tinting the lashes involves adding a pigment to the hair shaft, which is then sealed in with a fixative. Once the tint is applied, it will stay in the lashes until the hair completes the growth cycle and eventually sheds naturally.
The Bottom Line
So, there you have it! Now that you know the truth about lashes and swimming, there’s nothing stopping you from getting a lash lift and enjoying all the summer activities you love.
